Our bedroom is our haven, an oasis, a sanctuary, and our silent witness. The bedroom is sometimes the only witness to our intimate feelings, conflicts, fears, desires and misfortunes. When grappling with difficulties and trying to overcome them, we want to be alone and as always our bedroom is our refuge.
As a refuge, we want our room to be a place where we can be at peace with ourselves. We want it to be comforting and dazzling, free from distractions and unnecessary clutters. So we dress it according to our desires and passion.
The way we decorate our room reveals our personality and character. It is an expression of oneself. Howard Unruh, a World War II veteran and considered the first single-episode mass murderer in the U.S. history, decorated his room with military items. It truly reflected his personality and passion.
Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s Masque of the Red Death, a person I know decorated his room in black and illuminated it with blood-red lights. Our room really can tell who we are and what we are.
